This pendant is inspired by my love of Moroccan motifs in art and architecture. The quatrefoil is one of the traditional shapes often used, not just in Morocco but all over the world. This complex four point star is also found in many motifs of historic European art, the Byzantine style cross evokes this graceful quatrefoil shape as well. The intricacy of Moroccan art and Byzantine complexity come together in this heavily detailed statement pendant.
I made this stunning quatrefoil pendant in bronze metal clay using a textured sheet developed for the specific use of metal clay. While the clay was still wet I inserted a genuine dark red ruby directly into the clay to fire in place, ruby is one of the gemstones that is kiln safe at my firing schedule. Once fired in my kiln the clay becomes pure bronze and is then burnished for several hours, hand oxidized and buffed to bring out the contrast and texture, and then tumbled and hand polished to bring out shine and to strengthen the metal.
The pendant measures 1 3/8" tall including the sterling silver ring and is approximately 1 1/4" wide. It may be ordered with or without a chain, make your selection from the drop down menus.
