The owl is a magnificent creature, so beautiful in flight, so regal in repose. There is something about them that makes me feel a sense of awe, the way they move is seemingly not of this world and they are swift and skillful hunters in the night.
It is their very nocturnal nature that causes fear in some, while others revere them as a symbol of wisdom and intuition. Seeing a flying owl makes me think of something a very wise person once said to me when I asked "If I am not my thoughts then who am I?" He told me "You are She who is Aware". Those words sent shivers down my back but it took me years to understand them. I have, over the last year or so, really had that experience of observing my thoughts and I think of the owl, flying above and seeing everything with perspective that is unattainable for those who cannot fly. Yet, if we "zoom out" to where we can observe we can gain perspective. The owl is a wonderful symbol of that part of ourselves that can observe and use our wisdom and intuition when given perspective.
This necklace is your talisman, You who are Aware, The Observer. I designed this necklace in fine silver clay with a tiny genuine ruby, representing the passion within yourself. Once fired the clay becomes pure fine silver (a higher silver content than sterling silver) and it is burnished for several hours, oxidized and buffed to bring out detail, burnished and hand polished, and finally assembled into a necklace with a sterling silver chain and clasp.
The owl measures 14mm (just over 1/2") high by 17mm (just over 5/8") wide. The total length of the necklace 15 1/2" with an extender allowing for up to 18". Ruby is the traditional birthstone for July and is associated with the root chakra, it was thought in ancient cultures to be the keeper of "perpetually burning fires" of passion and drive.
