Craftsmanship and Mixed-Metal Artistry
Every element of this unique mixed-metal bangle is hand-fabricated from raw precious and base metals in my private studio. The central oval focal piece is hand-sculpted using premium copper metal clay, allowing me to impress an intricate design of a stylized iris triptych. The clay is dried over a custom curved template to ensure the finished piece sits flush against the wrist, then fired in a high-temperature kiln where the organic binder burns away completely, leaving behind solid, pure copper.
The structural band is entirely hand-forged using heavy-gauge sterling silver wire. I hand-hammer the silver wire to create a beautiful, light-catching multi-faceted texture that naturally hardens and strengthens the metal cuff. The forged silver wire band loops permanently through one side of the copper oval to create a fluid integrated hinge, while the opposite side curves into an elegant, custom-shaped hook. This hook latches cleanly into the side loop, utilizing the natural spring tension of the heavy wire to stay securely closed.
Design History and Artistic Connection
The design of this piece is heavily inspired by the organic, sweeping lines of the Art Nouveau movement and its deep connection to traditional Japanese botanical art. In design history, the iris is celebrated for its elegant, curvaceous silhouette and expressive petals. While this piece is housed within a single oval frame rather than three separate physical panels, it honors the triptych theme by grouping three stylized blossoms into one balanced, cohesive scene.
As an artist, I am deeply drawn to the rich, earthy contrast of the mixed metals in this cuff. The fiery, warm depth of the antiqued copper pairs spectacularly with the bright, cool gleam of the hammered sterling silver wire. Deeply oxidized to reveal rich dark shadows within the recessed grooves and buffed back to a beautiful shine, this bangle behaves as a wearable piece of history, celebrating the connection between human craftsmanship and the natural world.

Artist Note
"The Copper Iris Bangle is born out of my pure love for historical design movements. I have long been fascinated by how Art Nouveau lines echo the rhythms of growth we see in the wild, and pairing that stylized iris motif with the rich, rustic texture of copper felt incredibly satisfying. I spend a significant amount of time at my bench perfecting the tension hook so it snaps shut with confidence, ensuring this mixed-metal piece functions as a comfortable, elegant daily companion."

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How do I open and close a mixed-metal tension bangle?
Putting the bangle on is very simple. Gently press the hand-forged sterling silver wire hook inward toward your wrist to release it from the side loop of the copper oval, then slide the cuff over your hand. To lock it securely, wrap the band around your wrist, slide the hook through the open copper loop, and let the natural spring tension of the wire snap it firmly into place.
Will the copper centerpiece change color over time?
Yes. Pure copper naturally reacts to the air and your unique skin chemistry, slowly developing a deeper, richer, and more individualized antique patina over time. Many collectors prize this shifting character because it makes the jewelry feel alive. To maintain its current contrast, simply wipe the raised surfaces with a dry jewelry polishing cloth.
How should I clean and care for this mixed-metal cuff?
To protect the contrasting dark patina that delineates the delicate channels of the iris design, avoid harsh liquid chemical jewelry dips and ultrasonic cleaning machines. These commercial liquids will instantly strip away the dark, artistic contrast from both the copper and the silver. Simply clean your bracelet with a dry microfiber polishing cloth, and store it away from high humidity.
