Those born in October have such a lovely choice for birthstone between the traditional Pink Tourmaline and the alternative Opal. Those that are not born in October but love opals can rest easy, the legend of the stone being bad luck is mostly associated with the fact that they were used in wedding rings but due to their softness and porousness they would crack or break easily, which makes them not the best choice for a ring unless stabilized. Additionally, legend has it that a smear campaign was started by a competing gem industry. If you would still rather not chance it labradorite and rainbow moonstone have incredibly beautiful chatoyancy and light catching properties as well.
